Our rehearsals take place during school term times at Larkmead School, Faringdon Road, Abingdon, OX14 1RF.  The rehearsal times are Monday evenings from 6.15pm to 8.15 pm (TVYO) and from 6.15 pm to 7.45 pm (TVIO).  These timings are to ensure that no-one gets home too late during term time. 

 

We ask everyone to aim to arrive at Larkmead School by 6.10 pm at the latest to allow for checking in and getting prepared.

TVYO meets during the Autumn term and Spring term only, each of which is followed by an end-of-term public concert. This schedule has been designed with young people in mind.  The focus on Autumn and Spring terms is to avoid rehearsals during the main 16+ and 18+ examination periods.  As part of the TVYO experience, sectional rehearsals are held regularly, and we are fortunate to have excellent specialist tutors. These sectional rehearsals give our players the opportunity to practise tricky sections of the music in small groups, before consolidating what they have learnt with the rest of the orchestra in the 'full' rehearsals. There is also a break in the middle of the TVYO rehearsals, from about 7.10 pm to 7.20 pm.

TVIO also meets during the Autumn and Spring term - we are currently looking at some potential options for the Summer term and will provide updates in due course.

We recognise that travelling to Abingdon on Monday evenings can be challenging for some members - if this is an issue for you, please contact the Admissions Secretary and can advise you on the main options.  We encourage car-sharing where possible -parents and carers are welcome to contact us if you are interested. For older orchestra members travelling from Oxford, there is also the X3 bus, which runs to Abingdon via the A34 - Larkmead School is about 20 minutes' walk from the town centre.
