Who we are
Thames Vale Youth Orchestra (TVYO) is a well-established, self-financing orchestra for talented and committed young musicians from 11-18 years old, who are of approximately Grade 5+ standard and above. Our Musical Director and conductor, Caroline Hobbs-Smith, is supported by an experienced team of specialist instrumental tutors.
TVYO brings together more than 80 members, including students from 22 local state and independent schools and those who are home schooled. Recent members have played in the National Children's Orchestra and the National Youth Orchestra, and have also attended the Junior departments of the Royal College of Music and the Royal Academy of Music.
The orchestra offers opportunities for players to work together in an enjoyable atmosphere, studying and performing challenging and exciting orchestral repertoire at the highest possible standard. The orchestra performs two concerts a year (December and March/April), playing a wide repertoire, including some of the most famous and well-loved overtures, tone poems and symphonies.
We are always delighted to welcome new members from the local area - joining an orchestra like TVYO is a great way to broaden your musical knowledge, improve your performance skills, and make new friends.
